Pupils from the Prep School took part in the IAPS sailing Regatta at Portland Harbour, Weymouth. It was an overnight trip and the pupils were lucky enough to spend the night at Portland House, where Team GB stayed during the 2012 Olympics.
For the first time we had some y5 & 6 pupils in the team alongside our ‘old hands’ year 8 boys. Some 52 boats in all took to the water. It was a very challenging day but despite the high winds and choppy water, all sailed with immense enthusiasm and great team spirit. Each team sailed three races.
Top 10 race placings for Rory and Tom (year 8) gave them an overall 8th place, Ethan and Amelia (Y5 & 6) achieved a fabulous 22nd and Charlie and Kasper (year 7) finished a very credible 29th. For both these last two teams, it was their first time in a Regatta and their first time sailing on open water.
A wonderful achievement by all and one that gives us a taste of more success to come. The new team members are developing extremely well and credit must be given to Keith Sammons for giving these youngsters not only the skills, but the confidence to take on more experienced sailors from older year groups.
Congratulations to the following pupils: Kasper Collier, Charlie Gale, Ethan Lightbound, Amelia Ward, Rory German, Tom Waring
