In the Library

This section

Our aim is to develop in every child a lifelong love of reading and the skills to research and use information competently and responsibly.

The Prep School Library is a bright, innovative space fit for any 21st century user. Open and fully staffed throughout the school day, it is managed by qualified librarians with the help of Year 8 Library Monitors.

Pupils are encouraged to use the Library regularly. They can pop in during breaks and at lunchtimes to browse and borrow books. There is also a drop-in time for parents after school on Thursdays.

English classes have regular weekly or fortnightly library lessons when the children can exchange their books and simply enjoy a period of quiet reading; the librarians also utilise this time to involve pupils in a variety of activities which aim to encourage and develop their love of literature.

The Library stocks an extensive range of fiction and non-fiction material for all ages and reading abilities. The collection is further enhanced by a digital library that allows pupils access to an ever- increasing range of academic and recreational eBooks and audio books, anytime, anywhere.

We believe that reading is the key to academic achievement. It is this desire to create in the children a real passion for reading that is the driving force behind the library’s annual program of special events and activities which include author visits, book clubs and book fairs, reading games, quizzes and competitions
