Sport at Ardingly plays a significant part of College life. All pupils receive two afternoons of Games during the week with fixtures being played on Saturdays. In addition to this, sports clubs and activities run during the week as part of the enrichment programme.
The main sports each term are as follows:
Boys – Football (Michaelmas), Hockey (Lent), Cricket (Trinity)
Girls – Hockey (Michaelmas), Netball (Lent), Tennis (Trinity)
The College aims to offer competitive and recreational opportunities for all abilities, boys and girls. We have a significant number of external coaches in a number of different sports and activities who come in to support the Games programme. We are also very fortunate to have current Premiership Hockey players, County Cricket Coaches, UEFA Licenced Football coaches and Level 2 Netball coaches among the College staff. This expertise is one of the defining qualities of our major games provision and pupils benefit enormously from this wealth of experience and talent.
The Sports Department has a number of key aims:
- To provide regular competitive fixtures for pupils in the major sports and for the educational values (team work, leadership, sportsmanship) of these to be emphasised to the pupils
To educate the pupils about the Health benefits (physical & psychological) of taking part in Sport and Physical Exercise
To provide the expertise and coaching opportunities for pupils who demonstrate the ability to go on and play their sport at a Regional or National Level
- To provide a broad range of sports and activities for pupils that generates an interest in continuing well after leaving Ardingly College
