As part of our Biology Week, our Upper Sixth IB and A Level students had an inspirational day at Wakehurst, visiting the Millennium Seed Bank!
They performed DNA testing to understand how PCR and Gel electrophoresis are applied to the identification of illegal trade of wood and seeds, and to overcome some of the threats posed by global warming to endemic species of wild plants and its impact on medicinal research.
It was a brilliant opportunity to allow students to see scientists in action and to fully understand the global impact that research at Kew and Wakehurst has on pharmaceutical and environmental developments.
