The aim of the EAL Department is to help students develop the English language skills they will need to succeed at the College and in the wider social and professional environment in the UK.

Through an initial testing process, we identify those overseas students who require specific linguistic support. Our EAL teachers work closely with the English Department to support EAL students who need additional tuition throughout their GCSE course and A Level or IB courses. There is an additional charge for EAL tuition.

“Pupils who speak EAL make progress which is at least as good, and often better, than that of their peers”

International Academic Pathway

The International Academic Pathway (IAP) is a one-year intensive transition course for a small number of academically able students from outside the UK, whose level of English is not yet at the standard required to study Ardingly’s mainstream Year 8 curriculum.

Our IAP course is taught by specially trained EAL teachers.

Successful completion of the IAP enables the students to enter Year 9 at the College in the usual way.

For more details on the IAP please see our brochure here.
