Fifteen Classics students from Years 7 to 9 showed wonderful courage and excellent effort in entering their teams into the Sussex Classical Reading Competition hosted by Roedean School.

Our two Year 7 teams performed a dramatic role play of a court scene in a Roman Basilica, speaking Latin in character with fantastic diction, intonation and physicality to earn them a highly commendable joint third place out of more than ten teams from local state and independent schools.

Our two Year 8 teams were outstanding first and second place winners delivering a polished and lively rendition in Latin of a crime scene in the Roman Baths!

To cap it all, our one Shell team, who were a man down due to illness, still convinced the judges to claim victory in the Year 9 category for their powerful and emotive Latin oration describing Aeneas shocked at meeting his wife Creusa as a ghost in the Fall of Troy.

Amazon vouchers and certificates were greatly appreciated by all our winners, and we will return next year with props and costumes!
