The first weekend of the Easter Break, Schola Cantorum travelled to Jersey for 4 days and 3 nights of musical retreat at the Jersey Academy of Music. Fuelled by a delicious meal of local cuisine and inspired by an evening of storytelling by local performer Paul Journeaux, Schola took full advantage of the Academy’s excellent musical facilities to rehearse in various formations over the weekend, enjoying time and space to focus on their ensemble as a choir, but also to prepare for future performances.
We were delighted to spend time workshopping with local vocal coach, Nicki Kennedy, discussing and exploring the world of singing and choral musical. On Saturday evening, Schola shared a joyful concert with pupils for the JAM Prep showcasing the abundance of young musical talent on the island, but also Schola’s hard-work over the weekend focussing primarily on their Cabaret repertoire.
Sunday was an early start to sing a service for Passion Sunday at St Saviour’s Church, then an afternoon at the fascinating Jersey War Tunnels, followed by some time in the sunshine on the beach.
