Ardingly Prep’s Drama programme is designed to build confidence, creativity, and teamwork, making it perfect for all children, whether they dream of the spotlight or prefer to stay behind the scenes.

Drama Lessons

Our drama lessons blend fun and education. In KS2, each week, students engage in activities that enhance their English skills through script interpretation, improvisation, and performance. The curriculum covers a wide range of theatrical skills, including studying various genres and famous figures like Shakespeare. Even the most timid children are encouraged to participate, ensuring everyone finds their voice. Students learn poems by heart for our Poetry Declamation, developing confidence and memory skills.

Opportunities to Perform

Beyond regular Drama lessons, our pupils have numerous opportunities to perform and every pupil participates in a school play within the curriculum; from the Christmas play in the Farmhouse, to grand ticketed productions for Year 5 and 6 pupils. Our annual House Drama Competition, visiting practitioners providing workshops and exciting theatre trips, such as to “Frozen” and “Matilda,” further enrich our pupils’ Drama experience.

We also offer LAMDA lessons for those interested in developing acting, public speaking, and confidence.

We support pupils in their application for 11+ Drama scholarships at the College’s Senior School.

Recent productions include “Oliver!”, “High School Musical” and “Beauty and the Beast”

Past Productions

60 Prep pupils take LAMDA lessons each week. In recent exams, over 90% of pupils achieved Distinction, with the remaining children all achieving Merit.
